Signal 73 is proud to host an Open Enrollment Live Burn that hits close to home. In 2021, Owner Josh Miller's Wife Allison was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of Kidney Cancer, Chromophobe RCC. After a successful removal of her Kidney, 5 years later her cancer metastasized to her liver. She is now one of only a few hundred in the US with stage 4 Metastatic Chromophobe. There is not much known about successful treatment, especially once it has metastasized. We are here to do our part to raise funding for research, raise awareness of Chromophobe RCC, and support those who everyday continue to fight the fight.

For a fire training company, we couldn’t think of a better way to do what we do best, bring people together for a day of Live Fire Training and support a cause while teaching life saving techniques to fire service members. All of our Instructors & Burn Tenders are donating their time to make this day a success. Every person involved is donating their time, an all-hands-on deck operation. The next part in making this a huge success is to endure this as a minimal financial burdened mission as possible. Keeping focus all funds raised going toward the research of this horrible cancer. Some have inquired on why we would have picked September 5th as the date of the burn, Chromophobe Kidney Cancer Awareness Day is observed annually on September 5th. Again, we couldn't have thought of a better day to hold this.

Everyone has been impacted with the dreaded disease in one way or another. A family member, friend, sibling, parent, child, sadly the affects are either scene or felt directly or indirectly. Everyday these brave warriors and survivors fight the good fight, going through grueling and draining treatments to fight off this dreadful disease. All we can do is support them in whatever way possible, NO ONE FIGHTS ALONE. With this all-in mind, we are looking for any assistance possible. Running a full day of Live Fire Training comes with expenses and necessities. To ensure all participating do so safely, we need to ensure they are correctly hydrated and fueled to do so. Raw materials are needed for the use of training props. We are as well looking to conduct raffles for those who area attending to raise additional funds. EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS!

Monetary donations, hydration products, snacks, food, breakfast, lunch, etc. Our goal is to ensure that everyone that is able to assist in our mission will be mentioned and debuted publicly, showcasing your assistance and commitment to the cause. Again, all student entry fee’s once any costs are covered, raffle donations, and general donations are being directly donated to research Chromophobe RCC. The specific organization in question for our mission is “The Chromphobe & Onococytic Tumor Alliance”, this organization was founded in 2020 for the intent to fund research that aims to identify the biological hallmarks of chCC and deepen the learnings of it.

As much as this is being held to support our dear Allison, it is truly to show our support for every survivor. Regardless of type, cancer awareness is necessary as daily more are diagnosed and more are sadly losing this battle. We need to keep the fight going, to be the voices of those who can no longer speak or no longer have the strength to fight. Any funds that are not used for tangible necessities for this day will be placed toward the overall donation toward the research organization in Allison’s name.
