| We recently completed the third and final class in a three-part series focused on standardizing the Port Chester Fire Department's engine company operations and apparatus fleet.
Port Chester covers approximately two square miles along with the Village of Rye Brook along with the Rye Brook FD. It is home to roughly 32,000 residents, this also includes sections of both I-95 and I-287, & the Hutchinson River Parkway. As an extremely dense village with a diverse building stock, it is paramount that operations throughout the fire department remain consistent and standardized.
The department's fleet consists of five engines, two truck companies, and two heavy rescues. Standardizing hose loads, equipment placement, and operating procedures across that number of apparatus is no small undertaking. This process helps ensure that members can operate safely and efficiently, regardless of which company or apparatus they are assigned to.
During the standpipe class, members received extensive hands-on training covering all aspects of the new hose loads being implemented department-wide. Members reviewed every piece of equipment carried in the high-rise kit, its purpose and proper use, and how to correctly deploy, operate, and repack it.
